Indians re-sign

ex-Twins’ reliever Capps

The Cleveland Indians re-signed right-handed reliever Matt Capps to a minor league contract Thursday with a non-roster invitation to spring training camp.

Capps, 30, pitched in six games this season at Class AAA Columbus before undergoing season-ending right shoulder surgery on June 5.

In eight major-league seasons, Capps is 29-33 with 138 saves and a 3.52 ERA over 444 appearances with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals and Minnesota Twins.

Wilson shines in Seahawks’ win

Russell Wilson threw three touchdown passes, Marshawn Lynch rushed for 91 yards and Seattle beat Arizona in Glendale, Ariz., on Thursday night.

The Seahawks (6-1) intercepted two of Carson Palmer’s passes, converting both into touchdowns, and sacked him seven times, including one by Chris Clemons, who had been questionable for the game with a hyperextended elbow.

Arizona (3-4) got a touchdown and one of its three field goals after Wilson twice fumbled while being sacked deep in Seattle territory.

Gronkowski cleared

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is finally cleared to play, although his status for Sunday's game at the New York Jets remains the same as it has been throughout the season - questionable.

Gronkowski's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, sent a text message to media outlets Friday, writing: “Rob has now been cleared by all his doctors to play Sunday in the Jets game.”

Gronkowski, who has had offseason back surgery and four operations to repair a broken forearm, has been practicing for several weeks but has not played in a game this season because he was waiting to get clearance from doctors to play.

That finally happened Friday.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick said only that Gronkowski will appear on the injury report.
