The Willmar volleyball team’s season came to a quick end Wednesday but other area teams continue to strive for the goal they’ve played for all season: A spot in the Minnesota state tournament.

The BBE Jaguars (21-7) have surpassed 20 victories the last nine seasons and they are the top seed in Section 5A South.

Central Minnesota Christian School has a great season going and enters its Section 3A North quarterfinals match on Friday with a 23-6 record. On the downside, two of the No. 2-seed Bluejays’ losses have come, in lopsided fashion, against 3A’s top seed, Minneota, Class A’s No. 1 team.

Here’s a look at what area teams have coming up as the playoffs heat up:

Section 3AA North

New London-Spicer (16-11) banged out a solid regular season playing in the tough Wright County Conference. The No. 2-see Wildcats play No. 8-seed Minnewaska (9-14) at 7 p.m. Friday in New London.

No. 7-seed Benson (8-13) travels to play No. 2-seed Litchfield (14-13). No. 3-seed Morris/Chokio-Alberta (16-5), which won nine matches in the West Central North Conference despite having to play the likes of Sauk Centre (25-3) and Melrose (18-8), plays host to No. 6-seed Montevideo (7-12).

The North semifinals are Tuesday.

Section 6AA North

Paynesville (5-16) is the lone area team in the sub-section and the No. 8-seed Bulldogs’ task is monumental: Topple No. 1-seed Dassel-Cokato (23-3) when the teams meet in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Section 2A North

Two area teams could play major roles in deciding the sub-section title.

Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart (16-11) drew the 2A North’s top seed and will play No. 8 Cleveland (11-13), which swept Nicollet on Monday, in the quarterfinals on today.

On the other end of the draw is No. 2-seed BOLD (16-8), which lost in the 2A finals last season. BOLD opens against No. 7 Sleepy Eye-St. Mary’s (15-11) today.

Section 3A North

KMS pulled a mini-upset as the No. 9 seed, plucking off Canby in three games. For their efforts, the Saints (10-14) draw the state’s top team, Minneota on Friday at Southwest Minnesota State.

No. 5-seed Renville County West (13-15) held serve on Monday against Yellow Medicine East and now plays No. 4 seed Dawson-Boyd (19-7) on Friday at SWMS in Marshall.

No. 7 Lakeview (14-11) will try and pull the upset against No. 2 CMCS (23-6), which received votes in the latest Class A state poll, on Friday in Montevideo, and No. 8 MACCRAY (12-10) takes a swing at No. 3 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (20-8) in Monte.

Section 5A South

ACGC (0-20) will try to get its first win of the season at Royalton (14-10) today, while BBE (21-7) awaits today’s St. Cloud Christian-Eden Valley-Watkins winner on Friday at home. The 5A South semifinals are Tuesday.
