Kid hockey sign-up is Saturday at auditorium

WCER Mite/8U/Rec Hockey sign-up and registration for K-5 grade girls and boys is Saturday morning from 9:00-12:00 at the City Auditorium building in downtown Willmar.

Bell tops MCAC South defenders past week

Ridgewater College freshman safety Adihia Bell has been selected MCAC South Defensive Player of the Week.

The Milwaukee native made 8 solo tackles and 2 assists, forced 2 fumbles and recovered another, plus he returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown, at Brainerd. He is second in the South with 68 stops.

Wait! Chili Open keeps ball in play Saturday

The Little Crow Country Club presents the 3rd annual Chili Open on Saturday with a 10 a.m. shotgun start regardless of weather. The 27-hole 4-person scramble (40 total handicap minimum) is $45 per person and includes cart and chili feed. Phone 354-2296. The forecast is for fair but cool conditions.

1st Veterans Day 5k

is Nov. 9 in Willmar

The first Veterans Day 5k walk/run is scheduled for 9 a.m. on November 9 with the start/finish at the Flags of Honor along North Highway 23/71 in Willmar.

Packet pick-up, starting 8 a.m., is at the Community Center across from Robins Island. A long-sleeve performance shirt guaranteed if registered prior to Nov. 1. Register at

Sam Anez gets Central Lakes recognition

Willmar Cardinal senior harrier Sam Anez has been named Central Lakes Conference Performer of the Week in Boys Cross-Country. He has finished as the Cardinals second or third runner in every meet this fall, including an 11th place finish in the conference meet.
