Ridgewater takes down Rochester

WILLMAR -- The Ridgewater volleyball team secured the MCAC South Division title and will host the Region 13 tournament after beating Rochester 26-24, 25-12, 19-25, 25-21 Tuesday.

"We reached one of our goals, winning the Southern Division," said Ridgewater coach Joe Sussenguth.

The Lady Warriors were tested early in the match. Rochester held game point at 24-20, but Ridgewater won the next six to take the game.

"If we wouldn't have gotten that first one, we knew we would have a lot more work to do," Sussenguth said.

Karie Blommel led a balanced attack with 11 kills for the Lady Warriors. Stephanie Tillman followed with nine kills and four ace blocks. Leah Miller and Mackenzie Kessler had eight kills each, Carina Fesenmaier had 38 assists and Darcie Listul paced the defense with 19 digs.

Ridgewater plays at the MCAC State Tournament Saturday and Sunday in Thief River Falls.

The Lady Warriors will then host the Region 13 tournament Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at the college.
