Ridgewater wins 2 of 3 in Irish Dome

ROSEMOUNT -- Rise and shine!

The Ridgewater Lady Warriors start time for their first softball game at the Irish Dome on Monday was 7 a.m. and before noon had already put in a full day's work with three games.

Ridgewater (4-5) blanked Bottineau, N.D. 13-0 in the first game behind Heather Thoma's two-hitter, then drubbed Fond du Lac 9-3 with Kristin Kahle spinning a three-hitter.

Fond du Lac then avenged the loss with a 6-2 victory in the final game.

"We're playing pretty well for early in the season," said Ridgewater coach Todd Thorstad. "And for this early in the morning."

Jodi Merritt went 6-for-10 in the three games. Dani Soutffer was 5-for-9, Ashley Schmeling 5-for-10, Steph Rhea 4-for-8 and Aubrey Wren 4-for-9.

Ridgewater is scheduled to play its first outdoor game of the season next Tuesday at UM-Morris and then will play at St, Bonafacius on March 26.

The Lady Warriors went 2-4 on a five-day trip to Cocoa Beach, Fla., mainly against Division II teams.

Game One

Ridgewater 13, Bottineau 0

Thoma did not walk a batter and struck out seven in the five-inning game.

Ridgewater plated seven runs in the opening inning before eventually invoking the 10-run rule.

Jodi Merritt went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Lady Warriors. Sam Drees was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI. Aubrey Wren was 2-for-2 with a double.

Kahle allowed only one earned run in the five-inning game. She walked one and struck out two.

Ashley Schmeling paced the offense with a 3-for-3 performance with three RBI. Dani Stouffer and Steph Rhea had two hits each.
