Prep Tennis: Willmar tops BKMS, Monticello

WILLMAR -- The Willmar boys tennis team gave Benson/KMS its first dual loss of the season as part of the Willmar Triangular Saturday.

The Cardinals topped the Braves 4-3 with Mitch Fader gaining the winning point at 3-singles over Matt Hagestuen.

Willmar (8-3) then beat Monticello 6-1 with a sweep of doubles matches.

The Cardinals travel to Fergus Falls Tuesday.

Benson/KMS' result against Monticello was not available at press time.

Willmar 4, Benson/KMS 3

Fader was down 5-1 in the second set and had lost the first set 6-3 when he made his comeback, eventually winning the second with an 8-6 tiebreaker and then the third 6-4.

Landon Peterson and Mark Dunham forced a 3-3 tie by winning their 3-doubles match in a third-set tiebreaker 7-2 over Erich Martin-Peter Lindblad.

Willmar's only loss came at 1-singles with Jim Neis falling in three sets. Three-set winners for the Cardinals were Fader at 3-singles and Peterson-Dunham at 3-doubles.
