Prep Baseball: Paynesville rumbles past Morris to take lead alone

MORRIS -- Nathan Nietfeld launched a grand-slam home run in the first inning and Paynesville went on to drub Morris 15-6 in West Central South Conference baseball on Tuesday.

Paynesville (6-1, 6-2) took over sole possession of first place in the conference.

Aaron Savelkoul went the distance for the win, withstanding nine hits while giving up five earned runs. He walked one and struck out seven.

Jordan Lieser led off the first inning with a single and two hit batters loaded the bases. With one out, Nietfeld homered over the left-field fence.

The Bulldogs (6-1, 6-2) rapped 18 hits off four Morris pitchers. Jon Kerzman went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Nietfeld, Savelkoul, Casey Hess, Jake Deadrick and Jason Kampsen had two hits each.

Nate Gades went 2-for-2 for Morris. Dusty Sauter doubled and drove in two runs.

Minnewaska 12, YME 2

Mike Whittemore threw a five-inning one-hitter for the Lakers (3-4, 4-6), but the defense committed three errors that allowed two unearned runs in the third inning. He struck out seven and walked one.

Trenton Berg hit a solo home run to lead off Minnewaska's first inning, in which four runs scored. He finished with two hits, as did Alex Henricks and Jeremy Walker.

Mason Hegna had the only hit for the Sting (3-3, 4-3).

The Falcons scored in every inning but the fifth en route to the win. Travis Frederiksen led the way with three hits and two RBI. Seven players had at least two hits for ACGC.

Jordan Tanner went the distance for the win, allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out 11 without issuing a walk.

Dan Martin hit a double and had an RBI to lead the Braves.

He survived two solo home runs by the Falcons' Travis Frederiksen and Brooks Maurer.

Dan Martin went 3-for-3 with a double and Andrew Ebert hit a solo homer in the fifth inning to lead Benson.

Mauer, Jordan Tanner and Mitch Tauer had two hits each for the Falcons (4-4, 4-6).
