Waska rumbles past Monte

MONTEVIDEO -- Mike Whittemore smacked a three-run homer in the first inning and Minnewaska powered past Montevideo 17-5 in West Central South Conference baseball on Thurdsday.

Montevideo dropped three wind-blown pop-ups in the first inning and finished with eight errors.

Whittemore went 3-for-5 with four RBI. Shane Bosek also went 3-for-5.

Montevideo (2-6, 2-7) starter Troy Hendrickson had to leave the game after pitching just one inning when he twisted an ankle crossing the plate on a wild pitch to score the Thunder Hawks' third run in the bottom of the first.

Andy Goracke picked up the win in relief for the Lakers (4-4, 5-6), allowing one run on three hits in 4Xc innings.
