College Softball: Ridgewater 1-2 at state; regionals next weekend

SAUK RAPIDS -- After winning a nine-inning marathon against Central Lakes in its MCAC state opener on Friday, the Ridgewater Lady Warriors lost their next two games and were eliminated.

Ridgewater did qualify for the Region 13B tournament next Friday and Saturday.

Game One Ridgewater 6, Central Lakes 5

Tina Queenan went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI to lead the Lady Warriors. Kayla Terres went 2-for-4.

Heather Thoma pitched all nine innings for the win. She overcame three home runs among the eight hits allowed. She walked none and struck out three.

Itasca scored the eventual winning run in the top of the seventh on an error, a passed ball, a sacrifice and a single.

Ashley Schmeling hit a grand-slam home run for Ridgewater to highlight a five-run sixth inning. Schmeling and Kristin Kahle had two hits apiece.

Kahle went the route, giving up 10 hits and five earned runs. She walked none and struck out two.

Riverland rallied from a 2-1 deficit, scoring four times in the sixth inning to oust the Lady Warriors.

Tara Thielke had three hits for Ridgewater. Danyel Stoufer and Kim Brill had two hits each.

Heather Thoma allowed six hits and one run over the first 41/3 innings. Kristin Kahle finished and took the loss.
