Willmar puts end to slump

ST. CLOUD -- Willmar's recent scoring famine came to an end on Monday as the Cardinals laced 12 hits and pounded Central Lakes Conference rival St. Cloud Tech 10-2.

Chelsey Wierschem blasted a three-run homer and Brittney Hastad knocked in a run in three consecutive at bats.

Hanna Pederson and Heather Horning combined on a three-hitter. Pederson gave up two hits over five innings and Horning allowed one hit in the final two frames. Both Tiger runs were unearned.

Willmar had scored four runs total in three consecutive losses, 3-0 to Alexandria and 3-2 (twice) to Sauk Rapids.

Hastad singled in a run in the first and one run in both the third and the fourth on sacrifice flies.

Wierschem's inside-the-park homer went over the head of the center fielder in a five-run third. Bevin Williams, pinch-hitting, tripled over the left fielder in the seventh and ran home when the relay was mishandled.

Sara Kallhoff had three hits and scored twice and Amanda Croonquist and Horning added two hits each.
