Prep Softball: NLS splits with SC Cathedral

NEW LONDON -- The Wildcats split a doubleheader with St. Cloud Cathedral with identical scores in West Central North Conference softball action on Tuesday.

New London-Spicer won the first game 4-3 while St. Cloud Cathedral won the nightcap 4-3. The first game was conference, but not the second.

The teams are both 12-2 in the conference.

Jenna Moritz, Erika Norris and Karli Wendlandt hit run-scoring doubles in the sixth inning in the opener.

In game two, the Crusaders' Jodi Pfannenstein hit a two-out triple in the top of the sixth.

The Falcons scored nine runs in the fifth on five hits and four walks. Rachel Wright smacked a two-run double to highlight the inning. She led the team with two hits and four RBI.

Angela Blackwell pitched all five innings for the win. She allowed three hits and struck out nine.

Semler struck out seven and did not surrender an earned run for Benson/Hancock.

Brennan Hagen had a big offensive day, hitting a double and a solo home run in the top of the third inning.

The Thunder Hawks' Kayla Berget broke up Semler's no-hit bid.

Whitney Woehler pitched a three-hit complete game with six strikeouts for Paynesville (12-4, 15-4).

Keely Meagher led the Bulldogs with two hits and two runs driven in. She also scored twice.

Taylor Haag also scored three runs off two hits.

Amy Johnson and Lauren Trudel hit doubles for the Sting (4-11, 8-11).

Trudel took the loss from 2Xc innings pitched.
