WILLMAR -- In a driving south wind, Willmar breezed by New Prague 7-0 in boys tennis to launch the postseason.

The Section 2AA quarterfinal victory moves No. 3 seed Willmar into the semifinal round to face Mankato West, which had a first-round bye.

The match is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Thursday at the Scarlets' courts. Mankato West beat Willmar a week ago, 5-2, to earn the No. 2 seed behind No. 1 Hutchinson.

The Cardinals (10-8) won all seven points decisively from a young team with three freshmen playing singles. The Trojans, who finished last in the Missota Conference, finished the season 3-15.

James Neis, Trent Fader, Mitch Fader and Evan Armstrong gave up only eight games in a singles sweep for the Cardinals.

The doubles tandems of Matt Horning-Aaron Sagedahl, Chris Van Doren-Landon Peterson and Ryan Sheehan-Mark Dunham dropped just seven games.

The section team championship is next Tuesday at St. Peter.

The section individuals start May 23, also at Gustavus Adolphus College.
