Prep Softball: ACGC turns back Holdingford, 6-2

HOLDINGFORD -- Megan Daun and Courtney Malvin had two hits apiece and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City topped Holdingford 6-2 in the Section 5A-West softball opener on Monday.

ACGC (11-8) won its fourth straight game of the season.

Jazmin Petersen went the distance for the win, allowing eight hits, while walking one and striking out five.

The Falcons broke open a 1-0 game with five runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Holdingford scored its two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, spoiling Petersen's bid for a shutout.

ACGC (8-6) now faces Osakis at 5 p.m. today at Minnewaska Area High School.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, which beat Swanville 11-4 in its section game on Friday, will face Maple Lake in the other semifinal. The final is scheduled for Thursday at Minnewaska High School.

Ashley Gerads and Catelynn Maciej had two hits each for Holdingford.

Erin Ohman absorbed the loss, allowing six hits. She walked one and struck out none.
