Prep Baseball: Solbrack, Litchfield slam Watertown-Mayer, 15-5

LITCHFIELD -- Aaron Solbrack capped a 15-run Litchfield performance with a grand slam home run as the Dragons pounded Watertown-Mayer 15-5 in five innings to win the Section 5AA baseball opener Thursday.

The Dragons (12-9) will play the winner of the Annadale-Zimmerman game at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Delano.

Litchfield got the slugfest started with six runs in the first, helped along by a two-run single from Brady Smith and a two-run double by starting pitcher Aaron Valiant.

Six Dragons had multi-hit games.

Valiant pitched four innings and gave up four runs on four hits. He struck out seven and walked five. David Yordi allowed a run on one hit in the fifth.

New Ulm Cathedral (18-3) put up four runs in the lower half of the first inning on two hits and two Mustang errors and went on to eliminate Buffalo Lake-Hector 6-0.

Kyle Fischer and Craig Fischer combined on a one hit shutout. Craig threw the last four frames without a hit to get the win.

Mustangs' pitcher Trevor Albrecht, who threw a six-hitter, singled in the second inning for the lone hit. BLH finished 1-20 but 1-1 in post-season.

The Sting sprang to an early 5-0 lead, which was enough to withstand a 12-hit attack by the Lakeview Lakers.

Mason Hegna pitched into the fifth inning to gain the victory. He gave up six hits and two earned runs. Austen Cole finished up, he allowed six hits and three runs in three innings for the save.

Dylan Hoffman, Travis Enger and Dustin Baker all supplied run-scoring hits. YME (8-11) plays Montevideo at Bird Island on Saturday in its post-season opener.

Ryan Kurtenbach went 3-for-4 for the Lakers (5-12).

Drew Schmidgall hit a solo home run and Tyler Kellner doubled twice had drove in four runs to lead the Owls (10-2, 12-3). Kellner and Bryan Shaw had three hits each.

Schmidgall pitched the first four innings for the win. He gave up five runs on six hits and struck out three.
