Raymond tops Willmar in Cornbelt action

WILLMAR -- After blasting to an 8-1 lead, the Raymond Rockets settled into orbit before landing safely with an 8-5 win over Willmar at Bill Taunton Field on Sunday evening.

Neither of the Cornbelt South teams were sharp. Raymond committed five errors and Willmar four. And Rails' hitters whiffed 12 times against two Rocket moundsmen.

Tyler Knott stilled the Willmar bats on four hits and one run while going the first five innings. He fanned 10 and walked one.

Tom DeBoer finished up. He gave up eight hits in the final four innings. Raymond had four of its errors in the last two innings when the Rails got four of their five runs.

But DeBoer whiffed Matt Carlson, who had singled his previous two at bats, for the final out, leaving the bases loaded.

Raymond led 4-0 after three innings. Zach Nelson, the Rockets' leadoff hitter, singled and scored twice off Willmar starter Jason Scheffler, who took the loss.

Jason Meyer rapped a two-run double in the third inning for the Rockets.

Matt Seehussen led Willmar's 12-hit attack. He went 3-for-4 and knocked in a pair of runs.

The Rockets Jordan Smith reached four times on a single and walks.
