Raymond, Milroy win Cornbelt South games

RAYMOND -- Tyler Steen came home from third on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning and Raymond edged Sacred Heart 2-1 in the Cornbelt South amateur baseball playoffs on Friday at Lilleberg Field.

Steen reached on a single and went to third when Mike Jeseritz singled on a hit-and-run.

With one out, Jason Meyer flied to center and Steen was able to speed home.

Jeremy Hinderks took the loss despite allowing just six hits and striking out 13 without a walk.

Tyler Knott was just as strong over the seven innings he threw. He checked the Saints on five hits, walked one and fanned five.

Raymond had led 1-0 since the second when Kyle Knott homered.

Sacred Heart finally got on the board against Tom DeBoer, who came in to pitch the eighth. Ryan Hebrink was hit by a pitch, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a Mike Kuschel double.

But that was the only hit off DeBoer, who didn't walk anyone and fanned three to get the win.

Raymond is at Milroy at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Sacred Heart hosts Bird Island Sunday at the same time.
