Milroys ousted by Hanska at state amateur tourney

GAYLORD -- Hanska scored three unearned runs in the top of the eighth to break at 6-6 tie and held on to oust Milroy 9-6 on Saturday in the Class C amateur baseball tournament.

The Yankees had scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score 6-all.

The Cornbelt South champions were outhit 10-8 but had plenty of chances.

The Yankees stranded two in the eighth and one in the ninth.

Matt Bauer, the Yankees' hard-hitting third-baseman, went 3-for-5 including a two-run homer in the first inning and a run-scoring single in the fifth.

Tyler Steen, drafted catcher from Raymond, went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.

Yankees' starter Nathan Deutz pitched into the fourth inning but left after giving up seven hits and walking three. Mahlon Zimmerman pitched the last six innings. He was sharp, though he took the loss, allowing three hits, walking one and fanning four. He gave up all three hits in the Hanska eighth when the Yankees also had two of their five errors.

Middle reliever Dayton Larson got the win pitching 3Xc innings of scoreless relief. Kyle Fisher threw the ninth for the save.
