WILLMAR -- Matt Gorans finally got the best of Andy Jacobson at an Eagle Creek Golf Club in championship this season.

After finishing second to Jacobson at the Lakeland in June and the club's stroke play championship in July, Gorans used three straight birdies on the back nine to claim the Eagle Creek Match Play title 5&3 Sunday.

Gorans, who was last year's consolation title winner, birdied the 11th, 12th and 13th holes, he recorded a 15-foot birdie on the 15th to finish the match.

Jacobson won the 2008 championship in match play, defeating Danny Anderson in the final. Anderson is now an assistant pro at Rush Creek and recently placed 15th in the Minnesota Open.

Gorans defeated Mitch Warzecha in the semifinals while Jacobson took out Bart Bratford.

Jean Larson, the medal-play champion in July, defended her title in the match-play division. She led Lori Jacobson 1-up after 18 holes on Saturday and held that slim lead for 18 holes more on Sunday.

Brad Atchison, Willmar's head girls basketball coach, won his first senior title at Eagle Creek. He defeated Chris Meinert in the final.
