WILLMAR -- Willmar was unable to hold on to a 27-15 advantage as Fergus Falls took over in the upper weights and went on to a 45-33 Central Lakes Conference victory to open the season on Thursday.

Zach Morris, Seth Pollock and Adam Fagerstrom delivered consecutive pins to give the Cardinals a 24-15 lead going into the 145-pound match.

Coty Milhausen then picked up three points, scoring a reversal to break a 2-2 tie and went on for a 7-2 victory over the Otters' Matt Laugen.

But Fergus Falls earned six-point wins in five of the last six matches -- four by pin and one by forfeit.

Willmar's Nathaniel Swoyer prevented a sweep down the stretch with a one-minute pin in the 189-pound match.

The Cardinals are at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Invitational today.
