BBE repels late EVW charge

BROOTEN -- Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa scored five runs in the first inning and then held off a late charge by Eden Valley-Watkins to win 8-6 in Central Minnesota Conference softball action on Monday.

The Jaguars (1-0, 2-1) scored their five runs inteh third on two hits, a walk and three EVW errors.

The Jaguars eventually built an 8-0 lead before Eden Valley-Watkins plated three runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth inning to close within 8-6.

In the second inning, Laura Johnson hit a line-drive home run to center field with Raeann Sorenson aboard. Johnson finished 3-for-4. Michelle Sanders also drove in a run.

Keisha Weichmann belted a three-run home run for Eden Valley--Watkins in the fifth inning. She finished 3-for-4, as did Ashley Peissegur.

Sanders went the distance for the win for the Jaguars. She gave up 11 hits, struck out seven and walked two.

Tanya Sheldon was tagged with the loss, allowing six hits in six innings.
