Willmar blows 6-0 lead; falls to Flyers

WILLMAR -- The Willmar baseball team will have to wait a little longer for its first Central Lakes Conference win this season.

The Cardinals allowed five runs to Little Falls in the top of the seventh and fell to the Flyers 11-8 Thursday.

Willmar (0-5, 1-8) was in the driver's seat after six innings, leading 8-6 and needing only three outs for the victory.

But the Flyers (1-4, 2-5) got their first conference win after having the first four batters reach base, then Cardinal pitchers allowed three walks, committed two balks and Willmar's defense had two errors.

Willmar took a 6-0 lead in the second inning with five runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Jacob Damhof and run-scoring singles from Dean Stier, Jacob Rambow and Andrew Bangen.

Austin Adamson led the way for the Cardinals with two doubles and an RBI.

Joe Tuholsky, Joey Hanowski and Eddie Wenzel had two hits each for the Flyers. Wenzel also had three RBI.

Willmar plays a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader on Tuesday at St. Cloud Tech.
