Woehler, Paynesville cuff Morris in softball
PAYNESVILLE -- Whitney Woehler and the Paynesville Bulldogs cruised through the first six innings against Morris, then survived a little trouble in the seventh to win their West Central South Conference softball game 5-2 Friday.
Woehler had a no-hitter with only one walk through six innings. The bid ended in the top of the seventh on Dani Schultz's single to center field. An error on the center fielder allowed Schultz to take second.
The next batter reached on another error, followed by a hit batter to load the bases. Paynesville's third error of the inning scored the first run, then a walk scored the second.
Woehler started a 1-2-3 double play by snagging a ground ball, then a pop fly ended the rally, and the game. She finished with five strikeouts and two walks.
Keely Meagher hit a two-run double in the first inning as the Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead. She added a solo home run to left-center field in the third inning. Jenn Paul went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
Mackenzie Weatherly took the loss for Morris. She struck out seven and walked one.
