BOLD tops Benson in prep baseball

BIRD ISLAND -- Alex Gay went 3-for-3 and knocked in three runs to help BOLD upend Benson 5-2 in a West Central South Conference baseball game Friday.

Benson (2-5, 3-6) struck first with two runs in the first inning when Carter Fennell singled, Cameron Simmonds doubled and Kyle Pederson singled to start the game. But Pederson's two-run hit was all the offense Benson would get off Jake Stevens as the senior pitcher limited the Braves to just four hits for the remainder of the game.

The Warriors (5-3, 7-3) got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on Gay's RBI single. A four-run fifth then put BOLD in charge.

Gay highlighted the frame with a two-run single while Kyle Krause scored on Tyler Hebrink's fielder's choice and Shawn Dollerschell forced in another run after getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Pederson added another hit for Benson and Luke Schwarz struck out five and gave up six hits in a complete game on the mound.
