SPICER -- Willmar scored seven times in the first inning and went on to a 9-1 Cornbelt League victory over New London-Spicer on Sunday.

Anthony Stern went the distance for the Rails, allowing only two hits, while walking two and striking out six.

Willmar improved to 5-3, 5-3. New London-Spicer dropped to 2-4 in league and 7-5 overall.

NLS committed eight errors in the game and all nine Willmar runs were unearned.

The Rails had three hits and utilized three NLS errors in the first-inning explosion. The Rails, who finished with 11 hits, also plated a pair of unearned runs in the second inning.

Matt Sagedahl, Lane Kleist, John Sawatzky and Matt Carlson had two hits each for the Rails. Sagedahl, Kleist, Stern and Carlson each drove in a run.

The Twins' lone run off Stern came in the first inning on Mike Danielson's solo home run.

Darren Ogdahl absorbed the loss for the Twins.

Sacred Heart 3, Atwater 2

Matt Koenen outdueled Justin Schroeder and Sacred Heart scored three unearned runs to edge the Chuckers.

Atwater (3-4, 5-5) scored two runs in the first when Brian Kingery singled in Vance Martin and Schroeder knocked in Kingery with another single. Koenen didn't give up a run after that and surrendered only one other baserunner when Schroeder doubled in the seventh.

Koenen, who gave up just the three hits, struck out three and walked one to get the win.

Schroeder kept Sacred Heart (6-2, 11-2) scoreless for the first three innings before the Saints pieced together three hits and two Atwater errors to produce three runs. Ross Hebrink tied the game with a single that brought in Jeremy Hinderks and Nate Hebrink, and Geoff Nelson later singled in Jeff Hinderks with the go-ahead run.

Schroeder gave up four hits and struck out 10, but walked five to get tagged with the loss.

Stephen Engelmann with a two-run shot and Ben Aaseth with a solo blast hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning to give Bird Island a quick 3-0 lead that it wouldn't relinquish.

Engelmann and Eric Gass had two hits apiece to ignite a 10-hit attack for the Islanders (2-6, 2-6). Brad Gass fanned 11 and surrendered just four hits in his complete-game victory.

Jordan Haag in the seventh and Adam Hemmesch in ninth hit solo home runs for Paynesville (2-4, 2-4).

Jeremy Wieland reached on an error to lead off the ninth inning for Granite Falls and later scored on a ball that the Norway Lake-Sunburg center fielder had roll under his glove, which also allowed Chad Listul to score.

Tyler Kanten, who doubled in two runs in the fifth, worked the last four innings in relief of Nick Richter to pick up the win.

Grant Johnson hit an RBI double in the fifth and Kent Gjerde scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to account for the Lakers' two runs.

Stearns County Tournament

Raymond won one of three games this past weekend at the Stearns County Tournament.

Raymond, which entered the tournament with a 9-0 record, beat Carlos 4-3 and lost to Lake Henry 8-4 on Saturday, then fell to St. Martin 7-6 on Sunday.

St. Martin 7, Raymond 6

Ben Ruter and Zach Nelson singled in a run apiece in the ninth inning to pull Raymond (10-2) within a run. But the game ended with the bases loaded as Raymond struck out for the final out in the third-place game.

Nelson had three hits while Ruter and Jordan Smith had two apiece.

Lake Henry got a three-run homer from Ryan Loerz in the seventh inning, a two-run homer from Shane Kampsen in the first and a solo homer from Pat Mohs in the second to hand Raymond its first loss of the season.

After being held scoreless for five innings, Raymond plated three runs in the seventh behind Mike Jeseritz's two-run single and Jordan Smith's RBI single. Kyle Knott opened the scoring for Raymond with an RBI double in the first.

The Chuckers scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly by Zach Cunningham in the top of the 13th inning.

Jordan Tanner started the inning with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball, was sacrificied to third by Vance Martin, and scored on Cunningham's fly ball to left field.

Brian Kingery pitched 62/3 innings of two-hit relief for the win. He walked one and struck out 10. Tanner pitched the first 61/3 innings.

Martin finished 3-for-6 with a double and three RBI. Tanner was also 3-for-6. Jeff Peterson went 2-for-4.

Dylan Gass, Stephen Engelmann and Kyle Seehusen had two hits apiee for the Islanders.
