Rockets subdue Willmar

WILLMAR -- Raymond exploded for six runs in the eighth inning to blast away from Willmar with a 9-1 win in a Cornbelt South amateur baseball game Friday.

The Rockets (13-0, 21-2) scored an unearned run in the second inning on two Willmar (6-7, 6-7) errors.

But the Rails answered with an unearned run of their own. Matt Seehusen singled and went to third on an errant pickoff attempt. He scored on Ross Van Hauen's grounder to second base.

Raymond scored two runs in third inning on Jason Meyer's double. Mike Jeseritz led off with a double and Jed Nelson walked.

The Rails had a great opportunity to score in the third inning with runners at the corners and just one out, but a double play erased the threat.

The Rockets sent nine batters to the plate in the eighth. Raymond pounded out six hits, including doubles from Kyle Knott and Tyler Steen.

Nelson, Steen and Jordan Smith had two hits each.

Tom DeBoer pitched the first seven innings for the win. he gave up one run on six hits and struck out five without giving up a walk. Smith finished with two hitless innings of relief.

Seehusen had two hits for the Rails.
