WILLMAR -- Sara Kallhoff and Courtney Jacobson each scored twice and Chloe Donoho had three assists, plus a goal, as Willmar surged by Hutchinson 6-0 to open the Section 2A tournament on Monday.

Bailey Young, who assisted on two goals in Willmar's five-goal first period, notched the only goal of the second half.

The No. 4-seeded Cardinals (9-8-2) will host a quarterfinal match against the winner of Monday's meeting of No. 12 Austin at No. 5 Albert Lea, on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Kallhoff stuck a crossing shot in the sixth minute for a 1-0 lead. Donoho's goal -- her 18th of the fall -- was a hard shot from the upper left-corner of the goalie box to the upper corner.

Willmar put 35 shots on net. The score could have got away but goalie Emily Olinger made 24 saves for the Tigers, a new program that finished its second year 3-9-2.

At the other end of the pitch on the unseasonable 75-degree evening, Jordan Martins' shutout effort required six stops.
