MINNEAPOLIS -- Brady Koehler hit a jumper just 19 seconds into the game to give Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa a 2-0 lead and the Jaguars never trailed en route to a convincing 70-54 triumph over Goodhue in the quarterfinals of the Class A state boys basketball tournament Thursday at Williams Arena.

Kevin Kuefler scored 14 of his team-high 22 points in the second half as the Class A top-ranked Jaguars (31-0) remained unbeaten and advanced to today's semifinals against MACCRAY at noon at Target Center in Minneapolis. Kuefler, who also had nine rbounds, drained 12-of-16 free throws in the game.

Goodhue (24-8), which entered the tournament unranked in Class A, had trouble stopping the Jaguars' aggressive drives to the basket and several Wildcats got into early foul trouble. Eventually, four players would foul out down the stretch, including top scorer, Ashton Erie, who was whistled for his fifth foul with 1:46 remaining in the game and the outcome virtually decided at 63-52.

"This was a bad draw for us," said Goodhue coach Terry Poncelet. "We wanted to be physical and push the big kids around and make them beat us from the three-point line. But when you're getting outrebounded two to one, you're not giving yourself a chance."

BBE outrebounded the Wildcats 53-24 for the game.

Erie entered the game averaging 24 points per game and is Goodhue's all-time scoring leader. After scoring just five points in the first half and his team trailing 31-22, the senior guard heated up early in the second half, hitting three straight three-pointers and then came up with a steal and layup to make it 40-37 with 11:15 remaining. That was the closest Goodhue had been since the score was 6-3 with 15:57 left in the first half.

"The biggest adjustment we considered was going to a box-and-one when (Erie) got so hot," said BBE coach Dave Montbriand. "But we decided to stay with our trap, although it did keep us from trapping as much as we wanted. And (Goodhue's) physical defense got them back in it."

Erie then cooled off after picking up his third foul with 10:56 remaining and BBE quickly regained the momentum with Kuefler scoring six unanswered points for a 46-37 advantage.

Brady Koehler scored 16 points, hooked 12 rebounds and made three steals for the Jaguars. Brian Goodwin added 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. And Connor Goodwin had 13 points and 12 rebounds to go along with four steals.

"They were giving me open jumper," said Koehler. "I think they were putting pressure on Kevin a lot and they would double up on Connor down low."

BBE shot 40.4 percent from the field (21-for-52) and 73 percent from the free-throw line (27-for-37).

"Playing at Williams is something I've always wanted," said Koehler. "You look up and see all those names on the banners. It's a lot more fun than most games. I wasn't that nervous either."

Brian Goodwin added: "This is the first time I'd ever been in Williams Arena. It's pretty sweet."

Erie finished with 23 points and Michael McNamara was next with 16 points. Erie, McNamara, Jared Dicke and Brian Strauss all fouled out. The Wildcats shot 35.7 percent from the floor (20-for-56) and 50 percent from the charity stripe (8-for-16).
