Amateur Baseball: Willmar Rails fall to Brownton

BROWNTON -- A rough start handicapped Willmar's chances of winning its opener as Brownton outlasted the Rails 11-8 Friday in amateur baseball.

Willmar starter Troy Ditterich was roughed up for 10 runs and nine hits in the first two innings as Brownton built a comfortable lead. The Bruins plated seven runs in the first after sending up 12 batters to the plate to produce five hits and take advantage of three walks.

Darin Ditterich then gave the Rails a chance to catch up as the left-hander threw five effective innings, surrendering four hits and one run.

The Rails scored twice in sixth and eighth before scoring four runs in the ninth to make things interesting. Alex Marcus, who went 3-for-5, doubled in two runs in the eighth. Mark Krogstad also had three hits for Willmar and had run-scoring singles in the sixth and ninth.

Spencer Glaeser went 4-for-5 to ignite a 13-hit attack for the Bruins. Joe Ahlers struck out seven and gave up four hits in seven innings of work to earn the win.
