Boys Tennis: Willmar advances in 2AA-South

WILLMAR -- Despite having a revamped lineup due to an injury, the Willmar Cardinals advanced in the Section 2AA-South meet Tuesday with a 5-2 win over New Prague.

Willmar's No. 2 singles player, Jackson Burton, is out for the season with a chest injury.

"We moved David Skonard up from 4-singles to 3-singles and he won in straight sets," said Willmar coach Loren Holter. "I was impressed with that."

Willmar also inserted Isaac Yoakum, a JV player, at 4-singles and he, too, won in straight sets.

Willmar also swept doubles with Mitch Fader-Marty Larson prevailing at the No. 1 spot, Landon Peterson-Shane Christensen winning in three sets at 2-doubles, and Sam Murphy-Austen Hilding winnng at 3-double.

Willmar will now face top-seeded Hutchinson, which received a first-round bye, at 4 p.m. Thursday in Hutchinson.
