Amateur Baseball: Sacred Heart, Raymond, Bird Island win in Cornbelt playoffs

SACRED HEART -- The No. 1 seed scored eight times in the bottom of the first and Sacred Heart went on to thrash Granite Falls 14-1 at Saints' Park on Friday night.

Sacred Heart now takes on Raymond at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, in Sacred Heart. Raymond upset No. 2 seed Milroy 3-2 on Friday.

Bird Island disposed of Willmar 17-1 ending the Rails' season. The Bullfrogs host the Kilowatts on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Milroy has a bye to Wednesday.

Ryan Hebrink's grand-slam home run keyed the first-inning eruption. Jeremy Hinderks went 3-for-3 with a solo home run.

Tyler Kleinhuizen also had three hits. Nate Hebrink threw five innings for the win.

Craig Listul went 3-for-3, but the Kilowatts milked just a lone run out of 10 hits.

Raymond, the No. 3 seed, pulled off a minor upset behind strong pitching that kept the Yankees off the scoreboard until the ninth inning.

Tyler Knott checked Milroy on two hits over six innings leaving with the game still scoreless. Jordan Smith went the last three innings for the save.

The Rockets got an unearned run in the top of the seventh and then added two more in the ninth, one of those unearned off Josh Hadley, who threw all nine.

Milroy scored twice in the ninth, one on an RBI hit by Dave Schmidt. But Smith got Yankees slugger Brian Dolan to strike out to end the game.

Each team got eight hits, but Milroy's two errors both did damage to their cause.

The Rockets' Zach Nelson went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Dylan Gass went 4-for-4 as the Bullfrogs piled up 15 hits and finished off their scoring with an 11-run sixth inning.

Tyler Hebrink and Shawn Dollerschell each ripped a pair of doubles and finished with four RBI apiece.

Brad Gass throttled the Rails for six innings on four hits, walking two and fanning three.
