Jacobson completes Eagle Creek 'grand slam'

WILLMAR -- Defending champion Andy Jacobson held off a bid by first-time finalist Pete Hannig to win the Eagle Creek Golf Club Match-Play Men's Championship on Sunday.

The win gives Jacobson a sweep of the Eagle Creek 2011 first-place hardware: Early Bird, Lakeland, club stroke play and now the match play.

Jacobson took out Sam Warzecha 6&5, Jim Schammel 6&5 and Matt Gorans 2&1 to reach the final. Gorans lost to Jacobson in the 2010 final 4&3.

Hannig spilled Shawn Bohlsen 6&5, Eric Means 3&2 and second seed Danny Anderson 2-up. It was a good week for Hannig who had a hole in one at Eagle Creek the previous Sunday.

The Seniors championship, which also had a 16-player draw, was won by first-time entrant Greg Hilding, who played in the men's open a year ago. Hilding edged Norm Strehlow 1-up. Strehlow also was runner-up at the Lakeland Seniors.

Jean Larson won the four-player Women's Open bracket. Larson tipped Lori Jacobson 5&4, reversing the 2010 outcome.

Jon Krebs won Men's first flight while Doug Allen repeated in the second flight.

Jacobson won three titles on his home course in 2010; the exception was the Lakeland where his good friend and former touring pro Aaron Barber prevailed.

Previously unreported, Hannig aced No. 16 at Eagle Creek from 173-yards with a 7-iron on Aug. 21.
