New London-Spicer and Brooten-Belgrade-Elrosa split four singles matches on Tuesday but the Wildcats' doubles teams made the difference in a 5-2 non-conference win over the Jaguars at New London-Spicer High School.

NL-S' Amanda Radel and Lisa Dobbelaere played solid matches at 1-singles and 2-singles, but BBE's Jordan Gruendemann and Morgan Pastian both earned victories in 3-singles and 4-singles.

But the Wildcats swept three doubles matches.

"Doubles really pulled through for us," said Wildcats coach Paula Smith.

NL-S and BBE are equally matched teams, and the Wildcats are breaking in several younger players at the varsity level. The team has three seniors, two juniors and the rest are sophomores, Smith said.

"They're very competitive and have the potential to be very good," she said.
