Prep Girls Soccer: Willmar sinks Otters, 5-2

WILLMAR -- The Willmar girls soccer team surrendered the first goal of the game, but the Cardinals settled in offensively after that and cruised to a 5-2 Central Lakes Conference win over Fergus Falls on Thursday.

"It was a full team effort," said Willmar head coach Chelsea Brown. "Every single person out there made a difference today."

After Fergus Falls scored in the eighth minute, Willmar's Courtney Jacobson tied the game with a goal in the 27th minute. Bailey Young assisted. She was just getting started.

Young scored the Cardinals' next three goals -- two unassisted -- in a 20-minute span. Elise Duininck assisted on Young's second goal.

Fergus Falls scored again in the second half, but Willmar's Megan Skalla put the game out of reach with a goal in the 65th minute.
