WILLMAR -- The Willmar boys soccer team didn't allow a shot on goal and again opened up the game offensively in a 5-0 win over Brainerd in a Central Lakes Conference match on Thursday at Kennedy Field.

The Cardinals have won four straight games and they are 5-1-1 in the conference and 8-2-1 overall.

Cesar Jimenez scored the game's first goal on a header, Graham Dahl got the assist on a corner kick.

Juan Gomez scored on an assist from Jimenez in the 33rd minute, and Remigio Becerra scored unassisted in the 37th minute to put Willmar up 3-0 at the half.

Jimenez and Gomez both scored their second goals in the second half on assists from David Dominquez and Becerra.

Patience and possession, particularly when opponents play the ball aggressively, have been keys to Willmar's winning streak, said head coach Jeff Winter.

"Our passing game has been excellent," Winter said. "That was on display tonight. Many times, they used (Brainerd's) aggressiveness to their advantage. They really control the ball well."

The Cardinals are in the mix with Sartell and St. Cloud Apollo for the CLC lead, and they play Sartell next Thursday, following a home game this Monday against Alexandria at 5 p.m. at Kennedy Field.
