College Soccer: UMM defeated in first NCAA playoff game

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The stay in the NCAA Tournament came to an end for the Minnesota Morris men's soccer team, as they fell 2-0 to host and 12th ranked Loras College on Friday.

Loras (17-3-2) scored once early in each period for the win, taking advantage of their high scoring attack. After going down early however, Morris (11-5-4) was able to settle down and play even with the hosts, giving themselves their chances.

The Duhawks scored first at the 9:06 mark on a beautiful goal from Tom Flugel, as he hit the upper-90 from about 25 yards out, putting the ball in about the only spot that Cougar goalkeeper Tyler Weber could not reach.

Then at the 57:20 mark, the Duhawks went up 2-0, this time on a goal right in front of the net as Chris Comstock cleaned up a loose ball after a Weber save.

The Cougars entered the game with the eighth best goals against average in the country, while the Duhawks countered with the fourth best goal scoring offense. Something had to give, and unfortunately Loras was able to get their offense in gear just enough for the two scores.

Weber finished with seven total saves on the night, including several acrobatic stops to keep the game close. The Cougars were outshot 11-to-1 in the first half, before they came back to play even in the second with each team registering five shots.
