College volleyball: Mayville State signs 2 Warriors

MAYVILLE, N.D. -- Two All-Americans for the national champion Ridgewater College volleyball team have signed to play at Mayville State (N.D.) College next fall.

Outside hitter Hannah Smith of Willmar and setter Molly Hurrle of Kimball each signed a letter of intent on Jan. 13.

Both women were key players on Ridgewater's back-to-back national championship teams. The Lady Warriors were 65-7 in their two seasons.

Smith was a two-time All-Area and a two-time All-Conference player at Willmar High School as well as being a standout basketball player.

Smith is a two-time MCAC All-Division Team, MCAC State Tournament Team, two-time MCAC All-State Team, Region 13A All-Tournament Team, Region 13A All-Region Team, and NJCAA Division III National All-Tournament Team.

She earned NJCAA Division III National Tournament MVP, NJCAA Division III All-American, DIII National Player of the Week, and MCAC Hitter of the Week three times, and MCAC All-Around Player of the Week her sophomore year.

"Hannah is a very dynamic player, she will bring a level of intensity to the floor that we need," said Comets' head coach Lindsey Johnson. "She has all the tools to help take us to the next level; she truly is a player that refuses to lose."

At Kimball, Hurrle earned All-Conference player three times for volleyball as well as competing in track where she was a standout athlete. At the Willmar campus, she has earned herself many awards in her first two years of collegiate volleyball. She was a two-time MCAC All-Division Team, MCAC State Tournament Team, two-time MCAC All-State Team, two-time Region 13A All-Tournament Team, two-time Region 13A All-Region Team, two-time NJCAA Division III National All-Tournament Team, two-time NJCAA Division III All-American and MCAC All-State Team her sophomore year.

"Molly is an outstanding player and setter and will be a great addition to our program" said coach Johnson, "she is such a great leader on the floor and with her national tournament experience she will be an immediate impact in our program."

Mayville State, an NAIA member, plays in the Dakota Athletic Conference. The Comets finished 24-19 in 2011.

Hector's Werner signs

The Mayville State volleyball team is proud to announce the signing of Remington Werner, a senior at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart. Werner, who is from Hector, was named to the 2011 West Central Tribune All-Area Volleyball Team.

"We are very excited that Remington has made the choice to attend Mayville State and further her volleyball career as a Comet," said Coach Lindsey Johnson. "She will add a great deal of competition to a few different positions and her athletic ability is exactly what we were looking for."

Werner is also involved in band, choir, was a three-time class president, an honor roll student, and also plays basketball and is on the track team.
