OLIVIA -- BOLD overcame a slow start to outlast Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 53-47 Thursday to clinch at least a share of the West Central South Conference title.

A win Tuesday at Montevideo would give BOLD (8-3, 14-8) the conference crown outright. No girls basketball team from BOLD has ever shared or won a conference title outright since the Bird Island, Olivia and Lake Lillian school districts paired in 1989.

ACGC dropped to 7-4 in the conference, the same mark as Lac qui Parle Valley, which hosts ACGC on Tuesday. A win today over Morris/Chokio-Alberta would also put Yellow Medicine East at 7-4 in the conference.

Erica Melbie connected on three 3-pointers in the first four minutes to give ACGC an early 13-3 lead. But BOLD responded with a 13-0 run sparked by three treys from Carly Sigurdson. BOLD led 27-24 at halftime and ACGC pulled ahead briefly in the second half, but the Warriors jumped ahead shortly later and would hold on down the stretch.

Melbie finished with 21 points and Sigurdson 20.

Maggie Nagel grabbed 15 rebounds and Bailey Kubesh netted another 12 points for BOLD. No other player scored in double figures for ACGC.
