College Softball: Warriors win one of three against Vermilion, Itasca

TITUSVILLE, Fla. -- Haley Springer went 8-for-9, Kari Shipman had at least one hit in each game, and Andrea Krause spun a two-hit shutout Monday as Ridgewater went 1-2 in the final day of its annual trip to Florida.

The Lady Warriors (3-5) opened Monday being shutout 5-0 by MCAC rival Vermilion. Ridgewater later beat Vermilion 8-0 behind Krause's shutout that featured five strikeouts.

Sandwiched in between was a 2-1 loss to Itasca.

Ridgewater is off until Thursday, March 22 when it plays three games at the Irish Dome Tournament in Rosemount.

Haley Springer and Yvonne Wani each singled twice, while Kari Shipman doubled in the second inning for Ridgewater, which was outhit 10-5.

Justine Otremba singled to lead off the fifth inning and moved to second base on Kari Shipman's sacrifice before scoring on Brooke Carlson's two-out single to right for Ridgewater's only run.

Haley Springer had 3 of the Lady Warriors' 11 hits. Eight other players had one hit each.

The Lady Warriors grabbed a 5-0 lead after eight batters came to the plate in the third inning to produce 4 runs. Ridgewater cranked out a season-high 12 hits with Datriana Jensen and Haley Springer manufacturing 3 each.

Three consecutive singles to start out the inning highlighted the third. Jensen singled in a run, Jenna Kincade drove in another with a sacrifice and an overthrow at first base -- one of Vermilion's three errors in the frame -- accounted for the other two Ridgewater runs.
