College softball: Ridgewater sweeps St. Cloud Technical

ST. CLOUD -- A pair of five-run frames in the final inning of each game propelled Ridgewater to a doubleheader sweep of MCAC South rival St. Cloud Technical Friday.

The Lady Warriors collected 13 hits in their 11-1 win to start the twin bill and cranked out another 14 hits in a 12-7, extra-inning win to cap the day.

Ridgewater (8-5) hosts Anoka-Ramsey today for another division doubleheader at noon in its home opener.

Game One

Ridgewater 11, SC Technical 1

Already ahead 6-1, Ridgewater sent up 10 batters to the plate in the seventh en route to plating five runs. Brittney Nissen highlighted the frame with a three-run double to right-center.

Andrea Krause benefited from the support to earn the complete-game win, surrendering just four hits while striking out seven.

Krause, Haley Springer, Jenna Kincade and Samantha Cunningham had two hits each for Ridgewater, which scored three runs in both the first and second innings.

The Cyclones led 5-2 before Ridgewater plated five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull ahead. Tech then forced extra innings by scoring twice in the sixth.

Two scoreless innings followed before Ridgewater plated five runs in the ninth after the first four batters reached base. Brooke Carlson doubled in Jenna Kincade and Andrea and Datriana Jensen followed with another double that brought home Carlson.

Carlson added another double and also singled, and Kari Shipman and Yvonne Wani also had three hits each to pace the Ridgewater offense. Shipman belted a solo home run.

Shannon Heitz spun all nine innings to get the win, striking out nine and giving up eight hits and six earned runs.
