Prep softball roundup: Tigers torrid on the road

OLIVIA -- The Tigers outhit the home team 10-4 at Dirks Field and romped to a 10-4 win over the BOLD Warriors on Thursday in West Central South softball.

Holly Amundson and Tracy Meichsner of Morris/Chokio-Alberta spanked two hits apiece and winning pitcher McKenzie VanBatavia drove in three runs.

VanBatavia walked four and fanned five in her four-hitter. Robin Lubitz took the loss. Taylor Ebnet had a pair of hits for BOLD.

Game One


ACGC banged out 23 hits and scored 22 runs in a sweep of a West Central South doubleheader over Lac qui Parle Valley on Thursday.

ACGC took Game One 11-4 and Game Two 14-11.

In the first game, ACGC's Natasha Dallmann had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs, and Erica Melbie doubled in two runs. Sydney Larson, who picked up the pitching win, had two hits, and Payton Wilner also had two hits, including a double. Paige Wilner drove in a run.

LQPV's Tara Laechelt hit a three-run home run in the third inning.

In Game Two, Sydney Larson hit two home runs and drove in three runs, and Dallmann singled in a pair of runs for the Falcons.

ACGC's Mikayla Holm had four hits on the day, including a 3-for-4 performance in Game Two. Mariah Wehking doubled in two trips and drove in a run.

In the second game, LQPV's Mckenzie Long was 4-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI, and Allie Jensen hit a three-run home run.

The Falcons are 6-2 in the conference and 7-5 overall. They play next at Montevideo at 5 p.m. Monday in a rescheduled game.

PAYNESVILLE -- Julie Helanderf was 4-for-4 with a home run and Minnewaska rolled past Paynesville 10-6 on Thursday in a West Central North Conference game.

Lexi Amundson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Mady Phillips, Courtney Schmidt and Allyssa Engfer each had two hits for the Lakers.

Kayla Schaefer, Allie Stanger and Megan Schaefer each went 2-for-4 for the Bulldogs.

Phillips hung in for the win, allowing six runs and striking out two.

Brooke Wuertz got the loss in relief for Paynesville.

The teams combined for 26 hits.

NEW LONDON -- Amanda Radel spun a six-hitter with one walk and the New London-Spicer Wildcats picked up their first win since the season's opening week.

Brianna Fredrick, batting leadoff for NLS, doubled and scored on Aasta Bakke's single for a 1-0 lead. She tripled in the sixth and came home when Radel double, the second of her two hits.

Kenzie Maher and Marissa Friedrich also supplied RBI hits.

It was a nice win for the Wildcats, who had suffered four losses in the opponent's last at bat.

GRANITE FALLS -- Montevideo outhit Yellow Medicine East but the Sting's three-run second inning made the difference in a 5-4 win in a West Central South Conference game Thursday.

The Sting improved to 6-1 in the conference and are virtually tied with Morris/Chokio-Alberta for the league lead. YME, 6-5 overall, plays next at Paynesville at 5 p.m. today.

Morris/CA, a winner Thursday over BOLD, is 8-1 in the WCS.

Both Monte and YME scored all their runs in the first three innings. Pitchers Allie Trudel of YME and Ashley Hoehne of Monte settled in after that, combining to pitch eight scoreless innings. The Thunder Hawks outhit the Sting 12-4.

"They had quite a few hits but we were able to get outs when needed them," said Sting head coach Kristi Klassen.

Montevideo posed a threat in the top of the seventh, advancing the tying run to second base with no outs. But Trudel struck out the next two T-Hawk batters and got the game-ending out on an infield ground ball.

Trudel allowed just two earned runs, didn't walk a batter and struck out four. Hoehne hurt herself with five walks.

Canby/MLH took Game One 7-3, and then -- with both teams sending the same pitchers to the mound -- RCW soundly defeated CMLH 10-0 in five innings in Game Two.

RCW's Cassidy Fransen took the loss in the first game, then threw a five-hitter and struck out five for the Game Two victory.

Lexi Freiborg had four hits, and Morgan Zaske has three hits on the day, and she drove in two runs in Game Two. Grace Robertson also had three hits and drove in a Game Two run.

RCW is 5-8 overall, and the Jaguars play next against YME at 4:30 p.m. Monday in Danube.
