College Softball: Lady Warriors set to defend fastpitch title

WILLMAR -- The Ridgewater College Warriors will shoot for a sixth Region 13A fastpitch title in eight years starting today at College Field.

The Lady Warriors are the No. 1 seed in the four-team bracket after capturing the MCAC Southern Division title with a 17-3 record.

The defending champions will play No. 4 Anoka-Ramsey (16-26) at noon. Opening the event at 10 a.m. will be No. 2 Rochester (22-17) vs. No. 3 St. Cloud Technical College (27-16).

First-round losers play at 2 p.m. and the winners at 4 p.m.

Friday's games are at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. (if needed).

Top hurlers in today's games are Ridgewater's Andrea Krause (16-3, 1.70 ERA), Anoka's Khoe Greniger (13-13, 4.04), Tech's Miriah Dockendorf (9-11, 5.05) and Rochester's Laura Carnel (14-10, 5.30)

Leading hitters include Rochester's Rachel Tate (.468 average, 50 RBI), Tech's Sam Steffes (.445, 26 steals, 48 RBI) and Ridgewater's Brooke Carlson (.419) and Krause (.415).

Northern Division champion Itasca College is hosting the Region 13B tournament in Grand Rapids. Each sub-region will send their champion to the NJCAA Division III tournament starting May 17 in Rochester.
