Prep softball: Phillips leads Minnewaska past Morris/CA

Phillips led the Lakers to a 6-3 win, their 10th straight, working a complete game for the win and going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in.

GLENWOOD -- Minnewaska came out on top in a matchup of the first-place teams from the West Central North and West Central South, beating Morris/Chokio-Alberta 6-3 on Friday in Glenwood.

Mady Phillips had the big hit, a two-run single in the fifth inning when the Lakers were down 3-2, to give Minnewaska a 4-3 lead.

Julie Helander extended the rally with a base hit to score Phillips, and the Lakers tacked on one more insurance run in the sixth on a Kaylyn Oberg RBI-single.

Phillips was also the winning pitcher, going all seven innings and allowing three runs, one of which was earned. She walked none and struck out six.

Phillips was 3-for-4 and Helander was 2-for-3 with a fourth-inning home run.

The Tigers' Tracy Meichsner had two doubles and two RBIs.
