Prep Baseball: Kraft's three HRs help LQPV win own tourney

Tribune Staff Reports

MADISON -- Lac qui Parle won its own tournament in dramatic fashion in Saturday, downing Dawson-Boyd in the Eagles' first game, then scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 12-11 victory over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in the second game of the three-team tournament.

The wins improved LQPV to 8-7 overall.

In the second game, CGB's Logan Nordly hit a grand slam in the fifth inning for a 10-3 lead. But LQPV scored five runs in the bottom of the inning, and Preston Kraft hit a two-run homer -- his third homer of the tournament -- in the sixth to tie the game 10-10.

CGB's Keane Turner singled in a run in the top of the seventh inning, and LQPV's Cody Siegert countered with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the inning to force extra frames.

Eagles' reliever Brandon Bornhorst struck out the side in the eighth, and the Eagles' Jalen Baldwin reached in the bottom of the eighth when he was hit by a pitch. Baldwin stole second and reached third on a throwing error, then scored on Brandon Hill's game-winning single.

Kraft had the two homers among his four hits and he drove in five runs, and Sam Haas tripled twice, doubled and scored three runs. Colby Siegert had two hits, including a double, and drove in a pair of runs.

In LQPV's first game against the Blackjacks, two-out hits made the difference.

The Eagles' Ben Morken hit a three-run double with two outs in the first inning, and Kraft connected on a grand slam in the sixth with two outs that put LQPV up by eight runs.

Siegert got the win, working a complete game, scattering nine hits and striking out seven.
