Prep softball roundup: Otters blank Cards

FERGUS FALLS -- Fergus Falls took advantage of five Willmar errors, and the Otters won 6-0 in the Cardinals' regular-season finale.

The Otters jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on four hits, a walk and two errors.

That was enough for Fergus Falls starter Sadie Knudson, who pitched a complete-game shutout and struck out seven.

Leah Ruter started and took the loss for the Cardinals.

Willmar kicks off Section 2AAA play 5 p.m. Thursday in Eden Prairie. The opponent will be decided when seeding is completed.

Lac qui Parle Valley ripped Ortonville 14-4 in the Section 3A-North play-in game on Friday.

McKenzie Long was 3-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored and Megan Wildung had two hits and two runs.

Alyssa Harms went the distance for the Eagles, allowing four runs and striking out four.

LQPV will face No. 1 seed Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Murdock.

GLENWOOD -- No. 2-seed Minnewaska opened the 6AA West playoffs with a 7-2 win over No. 7 Sauk Centre on Friday.

Kaylee Jacobs gave the Lakers an early lead with a first-inning home run, and Minnewaska led the rest of the way.

They put it away in the fifth with a four-run inning on an RBI-single by Julie Helander, a two-run double from Jillian Hendrickson and an RBI-double from Brook Winter.

Madison Phillips pitched seven innings and gave up two runs to pick up the win.

The Lakers advance to play the winner of the Ottertail Central-Long Prairie-Grey Eagle game 7 p.m. Tuesday in Melrose.

Lightning stops

Litchfield game

A prolonged storm that featured lightning and several downpours forced a suspension of the Litchfield Dragons softball 5AA first-round game at Annandale on Friday afternoon.

The scoreless game will be resumed in the bottom of the third at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Section 6AA-East

Paynesville 6, Milaca 3

Kayla Schafer was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and No. 7 seed Paynesville beat No. 2 Milaca 6-3 on Friday.

The Bulldogs trailed 2-1 going into the fifth, but they rallied for three runs on a walk, a single and RBI-doubles from Brook Wertz and Megan Schafer.

Wertz was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Sam Dahl was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

Megan Schafer also pitched and picked up the win.

Paynesville will face the winner of Little Falls-Pierz at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Kimball 6, ACGC 5

Kimball ended ACGC's season by scoring the tying and go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh inning of a Section 5A sub-section game on Friday.

ACGC ended the season 9-8 overall.

Kimball's Megan Libbesmeier had a triple and a double among her three hits and she drove in a run. The Cubs' Alexis Rose relieved Libbesmeier in the sixth and earned the win, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out five.

ACGC's Sydney Larson, Erica Melbie and Jacey Nelson all had two hits. Larson took the loss.
