Amateur Baseball: Regal beats Starbuck in extras

Andy Hadley hit a two-run single in the 10th inning and Regal beat Starbuck 5-3 on Sunday.

The Eagles tied it up with a run in the eighth off Starbuck starter Jon Hoffmann and got the winning runs off reliever Trenton Berg.

Austin Kampsen got the win in relief of Chris Beier, who started and went 8-1/3 innings.

Kampsen was 3-for-5 on the day and Andy Hadley had two hits and three RBIs.

FARGO -- Sacred Heart lost a pair of games at the Northwest Amateur Baseball Championships over the weekend in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

The Saints fell to the Fargo Expos 7-0 on Friday and lost 10-2 to Austin on Saturday. All tournament games were seven innings, and the Saints' two games were played at Jack Williams Stadium in Fargo.

The NABC is a May 17-20 tournament comprised of 12 teams from Minnesota, North Dakota and Canada.

The Saints are 0-3 overall and resume their schedule at Bird Island at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Saints ran into tough pitching by the Expos' Nick Tweiten, who worked a complete game, didn't allow a walk and struck out five.

Ryan Hebrink had both Saints' hits, and Jeremy Hinderks took the loss.

PAYNESVILLE -- Chris Beier hit a three-run home run in the first inning and it would provide all the runs Regal pitch Shane Rademacher would need in a 9-1 win over Paynesville on Saturday.

Rademacher worked all nine innings, allowing an unearned run on two hits while striking out seven.

Rademacher added his own insurance with two hits and three runs batted in, and Austin Kampsen also drove in a run.

Aaron Olson and Trent Hanson combined on a five-hitter and the Mallards defeated the Walleyes on Friday night.

Olson worked 7.1 innings, allowing just five hits and striking out eight. Hanson got the save, striking out two in 1.2 innings.

Olson also drove in one of the Mallards' runs, and Jake Redepenning and Ryan Hoium both had two hits.

Raymond (3-1) sent up 11 batters to the plate in the second inning and came away with eight runs after utilizing five hits, including a grand slam from Kyle Knott and a two-run homer from Justin Koenen.

Rockets' starter Jordan Smith struck out six, walked one and gave up seven hits and four runs in 6.1 innings of work to get the win. Zach Nelson finished up the seventh and threw a scoreless eighth and ninth.

Nelson also slugged a solo home run and singled twice at the plate to help the Rockets outhit the Saints 12-9.
