College Baseball: Willmar Stingers finalize 2012 roster

WILLMAR -- The Willmar Stingers have finalized the roster for the 2012 season.

Eight players are returning from last season, notably outfielder Mitch Rowan and pitcher Scott Lieser, who join 28 newcomers from college baseball programs around the country.

The roster includes 29 full-time players and seven on temporary contracts.

The team is carrying four catchers, eight infielders, six outfielders and 18 pitchers, including several two-way players such as Florida Gulf Coast's Brady Anderson, who pitches and can play in the infield.

The official roster, as of May 24:

Catchers: J.D. Dorgan (St. Thomas), Greg Fettes (Kentucky), Dillon Haupt (San Diego)

Infielders: Logan Allen (Occidental), Zach Benson (Stephen F. Austin), Brooks Beisner (Florida Gulf Coast), Hunter Dozier (Stephen F. Austin), Corben Green (La.-Monroe), Matt Jackson (Washington), Max Kuhn (Kentucky), Kenny Roberts (Alabama)

Outfielders: Forrestt Allday (Central Arkansas), Steven Brault (Regis), Mitch Rowan (Willamette), Michael Suchy (Florida Gulf Coast), Pat Stover (Santa Clara), Steve Talbott (Purdue)

Pitchers: Brady Anderson (Florida Gulf Coast), George Asmus (Washington), Josh Biggs (Evansville), Jacob Cage (Azusa Pacific), Anthony Consiglio (Western Nevada), Kyle Fischer (St. Cloud State), Jon Flinn (Hawaii), Kody Gorden (Nevada Reno), Josh Hoekstra (Century), Scott Lieser (St. Cloud State), Mark Lukowski (Creighton), Jerad McCrummen (Texas Tech), Richie Navari (Louisiana Tech), Andrew Pulido (San Francisco), Michael Shreves (Montevallo), Andre Wheeler (Texas Tech), Michael Wills (Memphis)

While Stover is on the official roster, he is likely to be taken in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft and is a longshot to play for the Stingers.

Three returning players -- Taylor, Shreves and Hoekstra -- are on temporary contracts.

Taylor is limited because of the amount of innings he threw for the Jayhawks this spring and is another who could go in the draft.

Also on temporary contracts are Allen, Fischer, Brault and Fettes.

Some of the late additions like McCrummen, Wheeler and Wills were to replace early signees who will not be playing.

Minnesota pitcher Lance Thonvold will sit out the summer with an injury and pitchers Ben Burns (Daytona State) and Tanner Banks (Salt Lake College) are transferring schools and will not be joining the Stingers because of innings limits.

Mike Hollenbeck, a catcher from Illinois State, will be unable to play because he has to stay on campus to take a summer class.

The Stingers also lost recent addition Kelsey Outram (Southern Utah), who transferred after Southern Utah dropped its baseball program.
