Amateur Baseball: Paynesville edges Twins in 10th

PAYNESVILLE -- Ryan Hess doubled in Aaron Savelkoul with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning and Paynesville escaped a well-pitched game with a 2-1 victory over New London-Spicer on Sunday.

Savelkoul was Paynesville's ace, narrowly outdueling New London-Spicer's Nate Swoyer.

Savelkoul worked all 10 inning, allowing eight hits and striking out eight. Swoyer also worked a complete game, allowing six hits and striking out six.

Payneville took a 1-0 lead in the first when Brett Savelkoul doubled in Keegan Meagher. The lead stood until the eighth when NLS' Scott Rambow drove in the tying run.

Paynesville is 2-3 overall and in the County Line League, and plays at Starbuck at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Norway Lake-Sunburg lost a five-run lead in the top of the eighth but scored the winning run on an error in the bottom half and held on to win the County Line League game Sunday in Sunburg.

NLS led 6-1 until Starbuck countered with a six-run eighth. But in the bottom of the inning, the Lakers scored three thanks mostly to errors. Chris Braaten tied the game with a sacrifice fly and NLS scored the winning run on an error.

The Lakers are 3-1 in the league and 3-2 overall. The teams play a rematch with Starbuck at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Starbuck.

Jacolby Anderson had three hits and pitched seven strong innings to lead Atwater over Regal 6-5 on Sunday.

The Chuckers scored three runs in the second and another three in the fifth to give Anderson all the support he would need, throwing seven innings and striking out eight.

Josh Cunningham, Matt Lilleberg and Jordan Tanner all had RBIs for Atwater.

Benson pulled out to an early lead, Montevideo closed the gap, but Chiefs starter Rick Jepma never let the Spartans pick up the tying run on Sunday in Benson.

The Chuckers' Jordan Tanner had a double and two singles in four trips and he drove in four runs. Jacolby Anderson and Justin Schroeder both hit home runs.

Tyler Horning homered and doubled and drove in three runs, and Scott Rambow had three hits and drove in three runs.
