Legion Baseball: Willmar rallies past Kerkhoven

KERKHOVEN -- The Willmar Legion baseball team scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to outlast Kerkhoven 11-8 on Monday.

In the ninth, Willmar's Aaron Wiedemann tripled and scored on an error. Then, Dean Stier tripled to drive home Wiedemann, and then scored on Brandon Christenson's sacrifice fly.

Damon Ruter, who pitched the final three innings, shut down Kerkhoven in the bottom of the ninth to earn the victory.

Stier had two triples and drove in three runs, and Patrick Courtney had two hits, stole three bases and scored four runs. Ryan Horning had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run.

Kerkhoven's Jonah Johnson was 5-for-6 and drove in two runs, Joe Buck had two hits and two RBIs, and Isaac Froehlich had two hits and drove in three runs.

Kerkhoven is 1-3 and plays host to Prinsburg at 6 p.m. today.

Morris scored in every inning but the fourth in the five-inning contest in Evansville to improve to 4-0.

Tanner Picht struck out 10 and gave up three hits and two walks to pick up the complete-game win.

Morris broke the game open in the third by sending 10 batters to the plate to manufacture six runs. Highlighting the frame was RBI hits from Mac Beyer (triple), Picht (double), Jacob Torgerson (single) and Chandler Erickson (single).

Hector's Ben Maiers was 3-for-3 and Austin Ludowese had two hits and scored twice.

Austin Hoehne hit a three-run homer and Colton Vien struck out 12 and Montevideo shutout Lisbon, N.D., 5-0 on Monday in Omaha, Neb.

Montevideo scored two in the first when Joe Bednar led off with a single and Brett Bergeson was hit by a pitch. Tanner Lindemann followed with a single to score Bednar, and Bergeson came in after stealing third and the catcher's throw sailing into left field.
