Legion baseball roundup: BOLD clips Willmar

BIRD ISLAND -- The BOLD Legion team scored twice in the sixth inning and staved off a Willmar rally in the seventh to win, 5-3, on Tuesday night,

BOLD led by a run in the bottom of the sixth when Riley Kramer reached on an error, Jordan Skeie walked and Tyler Seehusen followed with a two-run double to make it 5-2.

Willmar scored a seventh-inning run but couldn't close the gap any further.

Ryan Horning, Patrick Courtney, Aaron Wiedemann and Tim Rogers had Willmar's hits.

Seehusen had two hits and drove in two runs, and Nick Steffel, Logan Sandgren and Tyler Rock also drove in runs for BOLD.

BOLD improved to 3-2 and plays Ely at 6 p.m. Thursday in Bird Island.

Kerkhoven 6, Glenwood 5

Kerkhoven scored twice in the fifth inning to take the lead, then stranded the potential tying run at third base in the seventh in a 6-5 victory over Glenwood on Tuesday.

Tied 4-4 in the fifth, Kerkhoven scored when Isaac Froehlich and Tyler Dick both stroked two-out singles. Travis Lamacker, pinch running for Froehlich, scored tying run on a passed ball, and Dick scored the go-ahead run on an error.

In the seventh, Glenwood's Andrew Amundson led off with a triple and scored on Sam Long's single. Long stole second and the moved to third on a ground out. But Kerkhoven starter and winner Jonah Johnson got the final out on a ground out to shortstop.

Johnson worked a complete game, allowing just one earned run on seven hits and struck out eight. He also had two hits and drove in a run. Froehlich had three hits, Joe Buck had two hits and drove out two runs and Jesse Engler also drove in a run.

Glenwood's Andrew Amundson and Trenton Berg both had two hits, and Andrew Amundson tripled and doubled in four at-bats.

Kerkhoven, now 4-3, plays host to Montevideo at 6:30 p.m. today.

Granite Falls 23, Hector 3

Granite Falls scored eight first-inning runs and Hector pitchers had trouble finding the plate, walking 12 in Granite Fall's win on Tuesday.

Brandon Grund led Granite Falls with three hits and Chris Jensen, Aaron Zieske and Elliot Carmany all had two hits. Zieske worked through some of his own wildness, picking up the win despite walking seven. He allowed just four hits and struck out eight.

Hector is 4-2 overall and plays next at Kerkhoven at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
