WHEATON -- Sam Mattson was masterful on the mound and Morris scored three runs in the eighth inning to lock up a 4-2 win over Wheaton in a Legion baseball game Thursday.

Mattson didn't allow a hit until the seventh inning, when Wheaton scored a run to tie the game 1-1.

Morris responded in the top of the eighth. Tanner Picht reached on an error to lead off the inning, stole second and scored on Tyler Henrichs' single to center field.

Henrich advanced on a passed ball and scored when Mac Beyer lined a double to left field. Jacob Torgerson then singled to center to bring home Beyer and Morris led 4-1.

Wheaton scored a run in the bottom of the eighth, but like he did in the seventh, Mattson set down the final two batters -- both on strikeouts in the seventh -- to end the game.

Mattson worked all eight innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out 11.

Morris is 5-1 in its sub-district and 8-3 overall, and plays next at Hancock at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
